Although I’ve just only turned 21, I still have a few tricks up my sleeves when it comes to organization and cleaning. I’m very type A and I love to take care of my stuff so it’s no surprise that my Pinterest is filled with organization tips, and I often find myself calling my grandmother for her cleaning advice. Here are some of the best ones I’ve acquired over the years…
1- Use vinegar in your laundry
Replace your fabric softener by vinegar to make the colours of your clothes stay true to their original colours, to make your clothes feel soft, and to remove odors. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant that works wonderfully without being too harsh. I’ve been using this trick for over a year now and I couldn’t be happier with how my clothes feel when they come out of the wash.
2- Put your white sneakers in the washing machine
Not only will it get the smell away, but it will also make your white sneakers feel like new. If you want them to be really white when they come out I suggest rubbing a paste of vinegar and baking soda on your shoes before washing them. And let them dry in the sun!
3- Wash your bed linens once a week (if possible)
Granted, bed linens aren’t clothes, but they should be treated like some. There is no better feeling than sleeping in clean sheets. If possible, try washing your bed linens once a week. You will always feel on top of your game and it will make you feel better. As gross as it might sounds, your bed linens can become quite dirty with your sweat, your dry skin or face cream, so wash them regularly!
4- Take care of your bags by stuffing them, cleaning them, and watching them
I see used bags everyday at work and I’m always surprised when people don’t take care of them properly (they’re designer bags after all!). When storing your bags, stuff them with paper so they keep their shape, to avoid creases from forming in the leather. Never put your bags on the ground because it damages the bottom. And finally, use leather conditioners or moisturizers to keep them looking fresh. You don’t need to have designer handbags to follow these tips, but if you do have one, please make sure you do!
5- Fold your knits
Knits HAVE to be folded. If you hang them, they will loose their shape and won’t look as good when you wear them. If you have good quality knits made of natural fibres like wool or cashmere, make sure they are clean before storing them to avoid moths!
